Pigeon Patrol says,” When will people ever learn about feeding the pigeons!

Who Ya gonna Call!!
POSTERS urging people to stop feeding pigeons are to be put up in Colne town centre. Complaints have been made about people feeding the birds. Leaflets are to be made asking people to think twice before feeding them.
Colne councillor Dorothy Lord said:
“People are coming up with loaves of bread and sitting down on their phones and throwing the bread out to the pigeons. It is causing problems with the amount of pigeons in the town centre. There is also the risk of a rat infestation with the bread left behind on the streets.“The extra pigeon muck is not nice for people in the town centre and it means the area has to be Power washed to clean it up.”“It’s not a nice experience for people in the town centre when there are so many pigeons about. We’re not taking thousands of pigeons but they do breed very quickly so we soon could be.”
This Town really needs bird or pigeon deterrents right away. The kind that Pigeon Patrol manufactures, bird spikes, bird netting , 4-S gel and Ultrasonic Repellers.

ANIMAL charities have reacted furiously over plans to slaughter Mottingham station’s pigeon population which have been persistently pooing on commuters.
It comes after a station platform vendor says the birds are ruining her trade as customers dodge the birds’ bombs which have landed in cups of coffee and pose a health and safety risk.
Southeastern, which is responsible for cleaning the platforms, are planning a cull to get rid of the pigeons before fitting meshing to prevent any more roosting.
But animal charities say the move is “cruel” “unnecessary” and likely to worsen the problem which could be avoided by using non-lethal deterrents such as anti-perching spikes.
Speaking of the ongoing problem, owner of Shell’s Kiosk Michelle Hill, said: “I am losing customers.
“Three people got pooed on this morning. “It is getting beyond a joke now. “It is like they are having a party up on the roof.”
Officer Diane Roberts added: “The RSPCA is opposed to the killing of wildlife where it is possible to humanely deter them instead.
A Southeastern spokeswoman said: “Pigeons nesting at the station are making a huge mess and are an issue for customers, tenants and staff. Our priority is to provide a clean environment for our passengers and the businesses at the station.”
Pigeon Patrol would try the following bird deterrents – Anti-roosting spikes or bird spikes or pigeon spikes – Bird netting –
UltraSonic and Sonic devices and 4-S gel. Good luck on your bird control and your pigeon problems.

Pigeon Patrol wishes all the best in the new year to New Bedford — Southeastern Regional Transit Authority. The officials are taking long and short-term steps to reduce problems caused by pigeons roosting in the rafters of the downtown bus terminal.
They will brighten the appearance of the terminal, reduce the noise and eliminate much of the problem of pigeons roosting inside the terminal, he said.
“It will drastically reduce the amount of space for them to stand on. It will be much more difficult for them to hang out there,” he said.
Rousseau said SRTA’s maintenance staff regularly battles the problem of pigeon droppings by power washing the pavement. However, the work has to be done at night because of the steady flow of buses during the day and he said crews have not been able to wash it lately because of the cold weather.
“Today (Friday) was the first day our guys were able to do that,” he said of the powerwashing.
I do agree that taking steps like installing bird deterrents lie bird spikes or pigeon spikes will help to control the pigeons and reduce the pigeon problems. For the whole story click the link below:

Pigeon Patrol found this story in about, Rome facing a “guano alarm” as millions of pigeons and starlings leave the city covered in a thick layer of droppings, Italian media report.
Some four million birds annually overwinter in the capital, but this year spending cuts have derailed efforts to discourage the birds from settling in central areas. In previous years, anti-bird measures have included pruning plane trees and broadcasting amplified cries of birds of prey through loudspeakers.
But such efforts have not been put into action in 2013, so the birds have deposited a thick layer of droppings on streets, vehicles and buildings.
The tree-lined Lungotevere, the boulevard running along the river Tiber, is particularly badly affected. Sections of it are thick with droppings, creating slip hazards for pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike riders alike. Photos published by Corriere della Sera show vehicles blanketed with guano. Pedestrians arm themselves with umbrellas or run for cover. The situation is so bad that some residents bang on pots and pans in the streets and squares to scare the birds away, just as people used to do in years gone by.
Using bird spikes or pigeon spikes together with an UltraSonic bird deterrent would definitely help with Rome’s bird issue. Pigeon problems have not got this bad in Canada, but you never know. Canadians may have to pigeon proof with bird deterrents to get rid of their pigeon problem.

This is a first for the Pigeon Patrol Products & Service crew to read up on.One nicotine-addicted bird sparked a major house fire when it dropped a lit cigarette butt down a chimney.
The ciggie-loving sky rat topped the list of most bizarre causes of blazes this year according to Britain’s biggest fire brigade.
Investigators in London studied 2,000 incidents in the capital in a bid to highlight the importance of fire safety.
And their survey uncovered an incredible variety of “weird and wonderful” firestarters.
- A dog hit the controls of a toaster as it leapt on to a worktop to reach food, setting fire to a bag.
- A pigeon dropped a discarded lit cigarette down a chimney, starting a fire in a bird’s nest.
- A fridge freezer caught fire after a mouse got into the back, shorting the electrics.
Charlie Pugsley, of London Fire Brigade’s investigations team, said even the strangest fires could be prevented by taking simple fire safety precautions.
Having bird netting, bird spikes or pigeon spikes, 4-S gel or even an UltraSonic units that can be purchased from Pigeon Patrol could have help prevent this bizarre fire. Pigeon Patrol is based in North America and can be reached toll free at 1-877-4NO- BIRD.

Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is a disease caused by a fungus, which grows in pigeon droppings. It also grows in soils and is found throughout the world. When cleaning droppings a person may breathe in some of the fungus, which in cases of high exposure can cause infection. Common activities, such as cleaning off windowsills, will not result in high exposures.
Symptoms of histoplasmosis begin to appear about 10 days after initial infection and include fatigue, fever, and chest pains. Most people, however, do not show any symptoms. Those with compromised immune systems such as cancer patients or people living with HIV/AIDS are generally more at risk of developing histoplasmosis. The disease cannot be transmitted from person to person.
Cryptococcosis
Cryptococcosis is another fungal disease associated with pigeon droppings and also grows in soils throughout the world. It is very unlikely that healthy people will become infected even at high levels of exposure. A major risk factor for infection is a compromised immune system. According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 85 percent of cryptococcosis patients are HIV-positive.
Psittacosis
Psittacosis (also known as ornithosis or parrot fever) is a rare infectious disease that mainly affects parrots and parrot-like birds such as cockatiels, and parakeets, but may also affect other birds, such as pigeons. When bird droppings dry and become airborne people may inhale them and get sick.
In humans, this bacterial disease is characterized by: fatigue, fever, headache, rash, chills, and sometimes pneumonia. Symptoms develop about 10 days after exposure. Psittacosis can be treated with a common antibiotic.
Since 1996, fewer than 50 confirmed cases were reported in the United States annually. In New York City, psittacosis is very rare with less than one human case identified each year. According to the CDC, about 70% of infected people had contact with infected pet birds. Those at greatest risk include bird owners, pet shop employees, veterinarians, and people with compromised immune systems. No person-to-person cases have ever been reported.

A substantial amount of pigeon droppings on the sidewalk in front of any downtown business space in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Just a wee amount or droppings that have been accumulating for months. Whose responsibility is to clean this mess up? Is the property owner or the city supposed to do it?
Poop, just like any other trash and debris that may accumulate in front of a business property, is the responsibility of the property owner. City officials or WCB may get involved in the event a property owner neglects to address the issue.
Property owners are typically given a reasonable amount of time to comply with a request. Likewise, failure to comply can result in the mess being deemed a nuisance followed by administrative action being taken against the property owner, such as a fine.
There are also health risks posed by large deposits of accumulated droppings, said Andrew MacBain, owner of Pigeon Patrol Products and Services.
Anyone having to deal with an accumulation of droppings is recommended to use part household bleach to nine-part water solution to treat the mess prior to any cleaning or scraping is done. The solution will kill any harmful biological agents that pose health risks, Andrew said.
After being treated with the solution an individual can wash the mess away with soap and water.
Pigeon Patrol manufactures bird spikes or pigeon spikes, bird netting , 4-sGel and Ultrasonic and sonic sound deterrents that will help ward off birds , pigeon , seagulls and other animals.

Pigeon Patrol Products and Services have had to clean up many nasty jobs, but this job may take the cake.
A hatch on a Swedish church tower inadvertently left open for some three decades resulted in 2 tons of pigeon droppings amassing in the tower.
The church’s property manager says the layer of droppings was 30 centimetres (12 inches) deep when it was discovered during a May inspection of the Heliga Trefaldighets Kyrka in Gavle, 170 kilometres (105 miles) north of Stockholm.
Lennart Helzenius said on Thursday that church staff had been shocked by the sheer number of bags of excrement cleaners were removing from the tower. He says the droppings filled 80 bags in the first round of cleaning, and then just as many in the second round.
Helzenius says the hatch had probably been left open since the 1980s.
I guess that this church could have used some of Pigeon Patrol’s bird deterrents like their bird or pigeon spikes, bird netting, 4-S Gel, or the UltraSonic Tube or Screaming Owl. Pigeon Patrol has warehouse in Vancouver Canada and Seattle Washington. Pigeon Patrol is the logical choice for bird or pigeon control in North America.

Here is an interesting story that Pigeon Patrol found. Bird droppings on your car are bad news for several reasons. Bird or Pigeon droppings on your car make your car look bad. Your car can be the most expensive luxury car with an amazing paint job and bird droppings can make it look cheap and dirty. Bird droppings on your car give the impression that you do not care about your car enough to keep it clean. Perhaps you were just unfortunate in the place you chose to park, but bird droppings really should be removed from your car as soon as possible.
Bird Poop Stains Your Paint
Bird droppings can also have lasting impacts on the paint of your car. Since pigeon or bird droppings contain a lot of acid they can actually permanently damage the paint job on your car. Bird droppings can erode the paint on your car leaving you footing the bill for a costly paint job. In order to avoid this scenario you should make sure to remove all bird droppings on your car immediately. You can remove bird droppings from your car by washing it thoroughly. If the bird droppings will not come off with a good washing you can also use seltzer water.
Remove Bird Dropping Right Away
If the possible damage to your paint job were not enough of a reason that bird droppings on your car to be bad news, bird droppings are also a health hazard. Bird droppings can cause Histoplasmosis and Cryptococcus. Both are extremely harmful diseases that can be spread from bird droppings to humans. These diseases can be avoided by effectively removing bird droppings from your car. If you come into contact with bird droppings you should immediately and thoroughly wash your hands to reduce the possibility of infection. Keeping your car clean and free of bird droppings can make your car look better, protect you paint job, and reduce the possibility of contracting some very serious diseases. Protect yourself and your car and remove those bird droppings.
If you have to park out on the street, you are kind of out of luck. However if you are parking in a sheltered area or under something that would ward having a bird or pigeon deterrent installed to help with the droppings, look no further and look through the pigeon patrol website and see if any of our bird spikes,

An administrative law judge with the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission has upheld fines against an Ohio company. An inspection revealed several employees had symptoms of a potentially fatal respiratory disease after sweeping up pigeon droppings.
OSHA opened an investigation against the company in June 2009 after a worker was struck in the head by debris during the cleanup of a 600,000-square-foot factory building in Cleveland that was owned by the company.
The inspection revealed several workers had symptoms of histoplasmosis as a result of inhaling dust created by sweeping and shoveling the bird waste.
The judge upheld five serious citations against the company for failure to provide:
- guarding for a fifth floor elevator shaft
- personal protective equipment
- compliant respirators
- medical personnel for advice and consultation, and
- training for employees on hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
The judge also upheld a less-than-serious citation for failing to determine the presence, quantity and location of asbestos-containing material.
The company was fined $10,850.

Canada and the USA are not the only places that have problems with pigeons.
Pigeon Patrol found out in this story that just walking under a bridge in Leatherhead has become a health hazard because of the pigeon mess collected beneath it, according to a concerned resident.
A large number of the birds nest in the railway bridge over Guildford Road, causing excrement to build up on the pavement beneath.
Cobham Road resident Tim Albert, 66, told the Advertiser that, as a result, walking into town had become a misery.
“My concerns are on two levels – firstly it is extremely slippery, you have to walk very carefully. Secondly, there must be a health hazard. We hear more and more about bird flu now. It just seems unnecessarily unnecessary.
“The council did come and clean it two weeks ago but two weeks later it’s just as bad as it was. It’s completely unhygienic and it’s gross to walk through. When it’s raining it is even more slippery.
“It’s like skiing when you go through. You can’t walk into the road because of the cars. There’s a lot of houses up there and there’s no other route into Leatherhead.
“Every so often people get bombed on. It’s a rotten way to start your commute, to walk through this pigeon dirt.”
Chris Townsend, the leader of Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), explained that anti-pigeon netting had had to be removed from the bridge because it was found to be deteriorating and had caused birds to die after becoming entangled.
“In the meantime, we have stepped up the frequency of inspections and cleaning to minimize the impact for local residents, while we will ensure that a long-term solution is found.
Pigeon Patrol Products and Services will be contacting this council to offer its assistance in solutions or products like pigeon spikes or bird spikes. Log onto www.pigeonpatrol.com for all your bird deterrent needs.

Logging onto www. pigeonpatrol.ca you will find an assortment of Sonic and Ultrasonic Sound emitters selling or being released in January 2014:

New Ultrasonic Tube from Pigeon Patrol
Sonic sound emitters, are one of the most effective deterrents on the market. Consisting of a central unit together with a Tweeter, the system emits distress calls and calls of predators of the target species as well. Effective emitters randomize pitch, magnitude, time interval and other factors to prevent birds’ getting used to them.
Ultrasonic electronic devices produce high pitch emissions in ultrasound. The sound is designed to be too high pitched for people to hear, but audible to most birds. This has the advantage to preventing disturbance to neighboring households.
All of these units work well indoors and outdoors claims Pigeon Patrol
Products and Services, the Canadian leader in bird deterrent products and bird control. On their website www.pigeonpatrol.ca is loaded with vital information on how these units work. Areas of use would include hangars, warehouses, plants, tunnels, loading docks, boat houses, underpasses, storage sheds, barns, sports arenas, convention centers, parking garages and farmers fields.
Pigeon Patrol Products & Services sold hundreds of these units last year without a single unsatisfied customer or return.
The company also sells pigeon spikes or bird spikes, bird netting, bird lasers and a new gel called 4-S Gel.

Vancouver, B.C. Canada, December 20 2013
Despite having installed more than 250,000 feet of bird spikes and a million feet of netting to keep pigeons off residential and commercial buildings in and around Vancouver, pigeon patrol expert Andrew MacBain from www.pigeonpatrol.ca says the pesky birds are winning the war.
“It’s worse than ever,” says the Surrey-based entrepreneur who has installed bird spikes and netting at BC Place, the BC Ferries terminals, BC Transit and other buildings throughout the Lower Mainland. “The pigeon population doubles every year.”
The mushrooming pigeon population in all the Canadian Provinces pose a threat to public health. “Most people don’t know it but, in addition to the threat to public health, pigeon droppings can also destroy water pipes and roof membranes,” MacBain says. “They also damage bridges and other structures. If the droppings aren’t flushed away, they dry out and turn into salt. Combine that with rain, and you get corrosive rust which weakens the steel support beams.”
That’s another reason why commercial property owners are anxious to log on to www.pigeonpatrol.ca and have Pigeon Patrol Products & Services protect their buildings and steel structures with bird spikes and netting.
“If they get the protective devices installed early enough, owners can save themselves thousands in damages,” MacBain says. “It’s a very low cost type of insurance.”
In addition to BC Place, BC Ferries and Jim Pattison Group Signs, Pigeon Patrol Products & Services has installed bird spikes and netting for more than 250 property management and real estate companies. With the growing demand, Pigeon Patrol now sells all of their bird deterrents products right across Canada on their website www.pigeonpatrol.ca.
The company now installs sound and ultrasonic repeller bird control units on the roofs of shopping malls and warehouses. The pitch is high enough so that the pigeons hear it but humans don’t. The company is also testing an organic gel that repels the birds for up to two years at a time.
Pigeon Patrol Bird Spikes were designed in Canada and are made from stainless steel and other recyclable materials, which provide flexibility and durability. The bird spikes or stainless steel pigeon spikes come with a 10-year warranty.
Pigeon Patrol Products & Services has promoted its products at trade shows like Home & Garden Shows, Vancouver Build X, The PNE and this year PM Toronto Expo. – and recently succeeded in placing them with Rona, Home Hardware and Roofmart.
“The pigeons are winning,” he says. “They just keep breeding. But I have made a difference. They don’t land on the buildings I have protected with spikes and netting. And, over the last five years, I’ve installed protection for thousands of property owners. Vancouver has a pigeon problem. My buildings don’t.”

Drug laws seem to constantly push narcotics traffickers to new heights of creativity. The latest example is the use of pigeons as marijuana carriers.
Buenos Aires, Argentina, a small-time group of dope dealers trained two white doves to carry pot from a safehouse where they were growing the stuff to a building where they were selling it to distributors. Argentine police busted the group earlier this week and confiscated their pigeons.
Officials said that the birds carried up to 13 grams of weed in each flight, in small pouches tied around their necks. With pigeons they could ship their drugs without taking any risks.
Pigeons have been used to deliver messages for centuries.

The city Psel River in Ukraine, wants the area to look beautiful and clean, in particular a monument to the poet Taras Shevchenko.
So what method have they chosen to stop pigeons fouling up the monument and surrounding areas? Birds of Prey?, shoot them?, trap them? Nope. Well What then?
Alexei Movchan, who heads the city branch of the ruling Party of Regions has said “Let’s give them wine-soaked bread and then deport them somewhere where they’ll wake up the next day,”. Yup the answer to get rid of the pesky pigeons is to get them roaring drunk, deport them to a different part of Ukraine in the hopes that they wake up with such a big hangover that they will have forgotten where they live.
Movchan denied the controversial move would infringe animal rights groups, insisting it is a tried and tested custom practiced regularly by an Orthodox Christian monastery in west Ukraine.

Pigeon Patrol releases this breaking story:
A number of panicked Russians have contacted the authorities to report concerns over the bizarre behavior of pigeons in Moscow.
Locals have dubbed the birds “zombie pigeons” after a strange change in their behavior swept the city – leaving the birds extremely lethargic and seemingly fearless.
Moscow resident named Umid said: “When a person walks past them, they used to fly away. But now they just sit there in a kind of funk and don’t even pay attention to you. They’re just not normal.” Umid went on to say: “I’ve seen some pigeons behaving very strangely, turning around in circles”.
Officials have dubbed the birds “the pecking dead” branding the epidemic a “bird apocalypse”.
One other resident reported a pigeon losing its balance and falling through an open window frame, while others described birds resting their beaks on the ground or walking round and round in circles.
For the time being, locals are advised to stay away from any pigeon that is behaving strangely and to call the local authorities if they come across a dead bird.
