The University of Bolton is one of the biggest buildings in the city centre area. Pest control has been called 21 times for mice, ants, and pigeons. Complaints have been made but no effective method has been proven to keep the pests away.
“Last year, The Bolton News revealed pest control workers had been called out to the Royal Bolton Hospital 17 times in 2009, 20 times in 2010, 20 times in 2011 and 31 times in 2012.”
The use of Pigeon Patrol’s Bird Netting or Ultra-Flex Bird Spikes could have easily dealt with these pest problems and reduced the amount of calls the pest control workers had to address.

Pigeon Patrol came across this interesting story about how Pigeons navigate similar to Pilots.
Pigeons have a limited mental process but despite having small brains, they can navigate extremely well.
Pigeons are influenced by visual properties of the landscape and use landmarks as a navigation tool. If the area is too bland and the same, pigeons have a harder time finding home; I guess that’s why pigeons like to hang out on the roof tops of buildings.

Ohh. Boy , there is a reason that Pigeon Patrol does not use Birds of Prey as a deterrent. This is reason one!
HAWKS were brought in on contract to scare away the pigeons. The parliament was warned the birds of prey could lead to a PR disaster if they began eating the pigeons alive in front of schoolchildren.
But the birds or Prey had a closer call in when a “service agreement” document carried instructions to clear pigeons from part of the MSP block, then added: “Shoot pigeons if possible during first visit; if not, a second visit may be required.”
Early attempts to combat the problem by stringing anti-pigeon wire across ledges failed because they just hopped over it. Anti-roosting spikes were first rejected as “visually unattractive”, but later installed.
So this is the answer Kill the birds with another larger bird or Shoot them!!
Thank goodness Pigeon Patrol offers Pigeon or Bird Spikes, Bird Netting, 4-S Gel and Ultrasonics Sound Units to deter the birds!!

Pigeon Patrol wonders if the Council staff will follow through with their threats?
There are large numbers of pigeons that sit on roof canopies of shops and in pathways, particularly Bowen Square and Foundry Place.
Apart from looking unsightly, spores from dried bird droppings can spread diseases similar to pneumonia and influenza if they are inhaled as dust and carried by the wind.
The new signs ask shoppers not to feed the birds and warn them that they could face a fine or prosecution for doing so.
David Cribbin said: “Feeding the birds is technically littering and can cause a potential health hazard.
“The new signs in the town center make it clear not to feed the birds and that people could be fined or prosecuted for doing so. However we hope that it won’t come to that and that these signs will act as an effective deterrent.”

Pigeon Patrol wishes all the best in the new year to New Bedford — Southeastern Regional Transit Authority. The officials are taking long and short-term steps to reduce problems caused by pigeons roosting in the rafters of the downtown bus terminal.
They will brighten the appearance of the terminal, reduce the noise and eliminate much of the problem of pigeons roosting inside the terminal, he said.
“It will drastically reduce the amount of space for them to stand on. It will be much more difficult for them to hang out there,” he said.
Rousseau said SRTA’s maintenance staff regularly battles the problem of pigeon droppings by power washing the pavement. However, the work has to be done at night because of the steady flow of buses during the day and he said crews have not been able to wash it lately because of the cold weather.
“Today (Friday) was the first day our guys were able to do that,” he said of the powerwashing.
I do agree that taking steps like installing bird deterrents lie bird spikes or pigeon spikes will help to control the pigeons and reduce the pigeon problems. For the whole story click the link below:
