Pigeon trapping cages are effective for large open areas where normal exclusion methods are ineffective or unsuitable.                                                                                                                                                The cage trap is baited with pigeon feed for 5 to 7 days, allowing pigeons access to enter the trap, feed, and then exit the trap.                                                                                                                                This process is designed to make the birds feel safe within the trap during this time.

The traps have one-way doors which, when set, allow the pigeon to enter the trap but not to exit it. The trap is then visited, and any birds within the trap are removed.

Bird Trapping Cage - Manual

Pigeon Patrol bird trapping cages are designed for the humane capture of pigeons in large open areas where traditional exclusion methods (spikes, netting, deterrents) are impractical or ineffective.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Trapping should only be carried out in accordance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Traps must be checked regularly.
  • Birds must be handled and removed humanely.
  • Trapping is intended as a population control or relocation tool, not a standalone permanent solution.

STEP 1 – SITE SELECTION

Choose a location where pigeons already:

  • Feed regularly
  • Congregate or roost
  • Feel safe (flat rooftops, parking decks, loading areas, open yards)

Place the cage:

  • On a flat, stable surface
  • Away from excessive pedestrian traffic
  • In an area protected from the sun and heavy wind, where possible

STEP 2 – PRE-BAITING (CRITICAL STEP)

Pre-baiting is essential for success.

  1. Secure the trap door in the OPEN position so birds can freely enter and exit.
  2. Place pigeon feed or mixed grain inside the cage, on top of the cage and outside the cage in front of the cage doors.
  3. Allow pigeons to enter, feed, and leave freely for 5–7 days.
  4. Refill bait daily as needed.
  5. This conditioning period teaches pigeons that the cage is a safe feeding area.

STEP 3 – SETTING THE TRAP

After the pre-baiting period:

  1. Set the two-way entry door so birds can enter but cannot exit.
  2. Add fresh bait and water in the cup provided inside the trap and on top of the cage.
  3. Ensure the door operates smoothly and is not obstructed.

STEP 4 – MONITORING

  • Check the trap daily (or as required by regulation).
  • Remove trapped birds promptly and humanely.
  • Re-bait the trap as needed to maintain effectiveness.

Never leave birds unattended for extended periods.

STEP 5 – MAINTENANCE & RELOCATION

  • Clean the cage regularly to remove droppings and debris.
  • Continue trapping until pigeon activity is reduced.
  • For long-term success, combine trapping with exclusion or deterrent systems such as spikes, netting, gel, or sonic devices.

BEST PRACTICES

  • Use gloves when handling cages.
  • Do not overfill bait.
  • Avoid moving the cage once birds are conditioned.

Trapping works best as part of a complete bird management plan
